Our clients, who recently purchased a one-acre property in north Dallas, desired an outdoor entertainment space for their extensive, growing family. Due to a poorly situated back alley and lack of municipal drainage, the land experienced occasional flooding and posed a challenge. The Bonick team devised a plan to mitigate potential flooding and provide a beautiful, functional pool and outdoor terrace. To accomplish this, the pool was raised 18” above the current elevation, with gracious steps leading up to limestone terraces at both ends. Each terrace provides functionality as a lounge area and outdoor dining space. To create a dramatic view from the house, and introduce the sound of water, the pool was designed with a waterfall edge using a custom blend of mosaic glass tiles. Pool landscape plantings of Globe Boxwood, Pansies, and Silver Falls Dichondra cascading over the edge were added in cast stone bowls from Longshadow to enhance the beauty. To encourage family connection, a smaller secondary terrace surrounded by understory trees centers an intimate gathering space within the garden around a cozy Lumacrest fire bowl.
