Hillcrest

When a professional family in a 1980s creekside home witnessed nature combatting their existing pool, they enlisted Bonick Landscaping to rebuild. They desired their new pool to be positioned against their existing patio, plus ample space for their children and grandchildren to play, a fire feature, and outdoor cooking and entertaining areas. Since the existing patio was part of the home’s foundation, and working with the alluvial soils was going to pose challenges, Bonick enlisted an engineer to help construct a system of piers to support the pool shell and resist movement and cracking. They filled in the old pool and situated the new one against the existing L-shaped terrace, hugging the home in a sweeping arc. This extended the water into the naturalized landscape and maximized its reflective quality. The addition of an automated pergola system with a fan and outdoor heaters provided year-round outdoor entertaining. Sustainable, chevron-patterned bamboo decking created a dynamic contrast beneath the covered dining area and chef-inspired Hestan outdoor kitchen. A modern fire bowl was thoughtfully located within the woodland terrace to center family connection around seasonal color and harmonize with the surrounding creek and understory Redbud, Dogwood, and Japanese Maples.
