Pool Remodeling isn’t just about Pool Resurfacing

Pool Remodeling isn’t just about Pool Resurfacing

Most of the time, when people think about pool remodeling or giving their pool a “facelift,” they think pool resurfacing. And while pool resurfacing is one of the most common ways people update their pools, there are many other ways, both small and large to breathe new life into a pool that’s looking worn and tired. Some of the most common reasons people in Dallas call us for pool remodeling are: to refresh pool coping, decking and/or waterline tile; to add new pool features such as a spa or fountain; to upgrade pool technology, and of course, for pool resurfacing.Bonick Landscaping Pool Remodeling isn’t just about Pool Resurfacing

Pool Resurfacing
The most affordable pool resurfacing is smooth plaster, which is available in an array colors. However, we don’t recommend smooth plater because it tends to fade quickly and has shorter warranty coverage than other pool surfaces. Today most people opt for textured or aggregate pool finishes with smooth pebbles, stones, shells or glass beads. Among the most popular aggregate surfaces are quartz surfaces (Diamond Brite), pebble surfaces (Stonescapes), and marble (Durazzo). The texture provides a safer, slip-proof surface and a more customized, beautiful look that becomes richer looking over time. Aggregate pool finishes are durable, and with proper water chemistry and maintenance these finishes will stay beautiful and last for decades. (More on pool surfaces.)

Pool Waterline Tile
Replacing or adding waterline pool tiles can is one of the easiest and most dramatic ways to update the look of your swimming pool. Some people prefer neutral colors that blend in with other elements and can even resemble stone in color and texture, while others use waterline tiles as a way to add a more customized appearance and wow factor. Today, glass tiles are a popular choice and can provide a very high-end, custom look. As with most materials, there is a range in quality of glass tile and in installation expertise. If you are considering glass tile it is important to work with a professional landscape designer that works with glass tiles a lot, is familiar with the quality products, and has expert installers on staff.Bonick Landscaping Pool Remodeling isn’t just about Pool Resurfacing

Pool Coping
Updating pool coping is a great way to boost your pool’s appearance and complement a newly resurfaced pool. Pool coping options include natural stone, travertine stone, bricks, and cantilevered concrete. Coping choices are primarily based on aesthetics and should take into consideration the design of your swimming pool and surrounding outdoor elements.

Pool Decking
The decking that surrounds your pool must work both aesthetically and from a functionality standpoint. It is the foundation of your backyard space and often a focal point for entertaining. There are many material choices when it comes to pool decking including: natural stone, travertine stone, poured concrete, stamped and colored concrete, hardwood such as Ipe wood, etc.

Other Pool Remodeling Features
Pool spas are among the most popular pool features requested as they offer a place to relax and leave stresses behind. Water features of all kinds are also popular and are an element in most of the pools we design today. This can range from something as simple as scuppers or jets to a fountain, waterfall, or infinity edge pool. Baja steps (also called tanning ledges) are increasingly popular as well. A Baja step is a large, flat, shallow surface in the pool, typically about six inches deep that provides a cool spot to sit or place a lounge chair partially underwater.

Pool Technology
There are many advances that have been made over the years in pool technology. Variable-speed pool pump equipment pays for itself quickly in energy savings. You can control the pump’s speed, dialing it up when needed—to power water features or spa jets—or down when your pool is not in use. There are systems that will automatically monitor and adjust your pool’s chemical levels and keep them optimally balanced. New pools today often have a centralized automation system that can be controlled from home, your smart phone or tablet, and provides one-touch control that allows your pool pump, light, spa and other functions and features to turn off and on at designated times. These systems can be added to an existing swimming pool as well.
