Scout Design Studio

SCOUT Design Studio proudly displays its clever moniker and sassy slogan outside its colorful brick facade. Slightly irreverent, and sustainably sourced, the team of 40 local artisans at SCOUT literally “scout the world” to curate their niche collection. Their 18,500 square foot showroom located on Howell Street in the Dallas Design District offers vintage treasures, exclusive artwork, bespoke custom creations, and lighting, home decor, and furnishings from Texas and all around the world. Their flamboyant fare is not necessarily for the tame, but trend-setters seeking quirky conversation pieces will delight in discovering the quintessential focal point for their spaces.

McGannon Showrooms

For those with more classical taste, McGannon Showrooms is another must on our list. Husband and wife duo, Sharon and Bill McGannon developed McGannon Showrooms in 1980 to offer wholesale furniture to those in the design trade. Today, they supply everything from lighting, art, textiles, and design services. Located in the heart of the Design District, the showrooms are also home to fun designer events, continuing education and receiving, delivery and storage service. With a wide range of outdoor furnishings and accessories lines, this southern staple sells homegrown hospitality with every chaise, planter, and cabana.

SMINK

Conveying contemporary elegance in outdoor living, SMINK arrived on the Dallas design scene in 1989 in pursuit of gathering great lines of perfect furniture design. As it evolved, they began showcasing upscale living products, including pottery, blown glass, textiles, lighting, and fine art to emphasize that the creation of all great design is in itself an art form, whatever its function. Ann Sacks

As unparalleled global purveyors of the finest tile and stone, Ann Sacks prides itself on carefully curated natural materials and pristine craftsmanship. Carlyn Ray Designs

Glass artist, Carlyn Ray exudes passion in developing an intimate connection with each gorgeous glass piece she blows. To her, “the process of creating glass combines the mental, physical and spiritual realms.” Its this personal touch that makes each piece of her art special to its beholder.

For her outdoor installations, Carlyn creates glass spires that are lit from within using a bulb with full temperature control to truly customize each creation. A metal tube supports each spire and camouflages the electrical housing. As the bubbles within the glass disperse the light, they flow naturally to the top of each spire. This organic approach emulates nature and seamlessly shines as a focal point of within its softly illuminated surroundings.
